What to expect from Arts Psychotherapy
Arts psychotherapy is like traditional forms of talking therapy, but you will have the option of using art materials to support the work. These include bodywork or movement, clay or sculpture, drama, drawing or painting, poetry, and sand play. You do not need to be ‘good’ at art or even have any previous experience of making to benefit from it; it is effective for self-expression, exploration, and play. Arts psychotherapy can be beneficial for anyone.
In the moment, these creative processes are calming and grounding, and in the long term improve mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing. When words are difficult, or don’t feel like enough, the arts can help with communication. We can also think creatively together and in metaphorical ways. Your artworks will then act as a map of the work to help us track your progress and see what direction you might want to take the work in.
